How to Remove Downloads from HTML5 Video in WordPress

If you have embedded a video on your WordPress website using the HTML5 video player, you may have noticed a "Download" link that appears when users right-click on the video. While this may seem like a convenient feature, it can also lead to unauthorized downloads and distribution of your content.

Here's how to remove the download link from your HTML5 videos in WordPress:

  1. Open the WordPress dashboard and go to the page or post where the video is embedded.

  2. Click on the HTML tab to edit the code directly.

  3. Find the line of code that starts with <video and ends with </video>. This contains all the parameters for your video player.

  4. Add the controlsList="nodownload" attribute within the <video tag, as shown below:

<video src="your-video.mp4" controls controlsList="nodownload"></video>

  1. Save the changes and refresh the page to test the video. The download button should no longer appear when users right-click on the video.

Note: Some browsers may still show a download option in the context menu even if the download attribute is removed. This is a browser-specific behavior and cannot be controlled through HTML or WordPress settings.

By removing the download link from your HTML5 videos, you can better protect your content from unauthorized downloads and ensure that your users view your videos in the intended manner.
